On the morning of 28 February 2015, Th\u0103ng Long – H\u00e0 N\u1ed9i Heritage Conservation Centre worked with \u0110\u00ecnh B\u1ea3ng People\u2019s Committee and the Management Board of \u0110\u00f4 Temple in B\u1eafc Ninh to organize a tree-planting ceremony at the Imperial Citadel of Th\u0103ng Long. <\/b><\/p>\n
With agreement from the Th\u0103ng Long – H\u00e0 N\u1ed9i Heritage Conservation Centre, the popular b\u00e1ng<\/i> tree native to \u0110\u00ecnh B\u1ea3ng (formerly K\u1ebb B\u00e1ng) has been brought by the descendants of the L\u00fd kings to be planted at the Th\u0103ng Long Imperial Citadel, at the centre of the Forbidden Citadel and previous palaces associated with the dynasties of L\u00fd, Tr\u1ea7n, L\u00ea, M\u1ea1c and the history of Th\u0103ng Long as the national capital city.<\/p>\n
The b\u00e1ng<\/i> tree, which is also known locally under several other names such as \u0111a g\u00e1o, \u0111a chai, g\u00f9a, co p\u1ea3ng, p\u00e1ng,<\/i> and scientifically termed Ficus callosa Willd<\/i>, is a tree of the Moraceae<\/i> family and indigenous origin. This is a tree with straight trunk, measuring between 20 and 24 metres. In some rare cases, it can grow as tall as 40m, with thick and gray bark and majestic look.<\/p>\n
The village of \u0110\u00ecnh B\u1ea3ng is also known as K\u1ebb B\u00e1ng<\/i> because it is surrounded by thickets of b\u00e1ng<\/i> trees and a haven for various species of birds. \u0110\u00ecnh B\u1ea3ng is considered the natal village of the L\u00fd dynasty because it was the birthplace of the first L\u00fd king L\u00fd Th\u00e1i T\u1ed5, who civilized Th\u0103ng Long- H\u00e0 N\u1ed9i and gave rise to the culture of Great Vi\u1ec7t. This is one of the most sacred and scenic lands of Kinh B\u1eafc – B\u1eafc Ninh. Regretting the destruction of the massive forest of B\u00e1ng trees by war and time, the people of \u0110\u00ecnh B\u1ea3ng have travelled the length and bread of Vietnam in search of the remaining trees and brought them back to be planted at the historical site of \u0110\u00f4 Temple with a view to restoring the magnificent \u201cB\u00e1ng forest\u201d and returning the trees to their native land of K\u1ebb B\u00e1ng. Restoring the B\u00e1ng forest is, according to them, restoring the landscape of the historical site, thereby contributing to the preservation of cultural identities of Kinh B\u1eafc and showing gratitude to the predecessors who were credited with the construction and defence of the homeland and the country.<\/p>\n
The planting of the b\u00e1ng<\/i> tree at Th\u0103ng Long Imperial Citadel will bring \u0110\u00ecnh B\u1ea3ng as the natal place even closer to the imperial palaces in Th\u0103ng Long where the L\u00fd kings ruled. The tree-planting ceremony, which takes place on the very first days of the new year, is also a meaningful contribution to the campaign of afforestation and environmental protection: \u00a0\u201cLet\u2019s plant more trees in spring to give our country more vitality\u201d.<\/p>\n
