Set amidst the colourful setting of the World Heritage Site of Th\u0103ng Long Imperial Citadel, the programme \u201cMemories of Hanoi\u201d is expected to revitalize the good old cultural traditions of Th\u0103ng Long of yore.<\/p>\n
One can trace back the ancient traits of the Hanoi Citadel gates, the trams, the antique markets, the streets and guilds of different professions and the street music performances.<\/p>\n
Besides, there are also examples of the bonsai & penjing art, craft products of Th\u0103ng Long people, the renowned H\u00e0 N\u1ed9i culinary traditions, exhibitions of the old Hanoi costumes, the folk festivals of Th\u0103ng Long-H\u00e0 N\u1ed9i and the art of flower arrangement.<\/p>\n
Especially noteworthy is the section for installation art where the old quarters of Hanoi is reconstructed with streets whose names start with the word \u201cH\u00e0ng\u201d (literally \u2018guild\u2019) such as H\u00e0ng \u0110\u00e0o, H\u00e0ng Gai, H\u00e0ng \u0110\u1ed3ng, H\u00e0ng Khay, H\u00e0ng Tr\u1ed1ng or other related streets like L\u00e3n \u00d4ng, B\u00e1t \u0110\u00e0n, C\u1ea7u G\u1ed7, etc.<\/p>\n
The old streets of Hanoi are recreated in their entirety, from the manual work of the artisans to the peddlers, the flowers carried on bicycles, the portrait artists and the pen-carvers, etc.<\/p>\n
The section \u201cFlea Markets of Old Hanoi\u201d introduces hundred-year-old antiques that many people never thought exist until today. Each of the objects on sale in the market is like a piece of zigsaw of the old memories. This is\u00a0 place for nostalgia where people come and look for the memories of their past.<\/p>\n
Visitors to the site can also experience traditional folk games and take part in the making of the traditional toys. According to Ms Nguy\u1ec5n Th\u1ecb Mai Anh from the organizing committee, in order to prepare for this programme, the committee has trained its members how to make toys like masks, leaf grasshoppers, or the board game \u00f4 \u0103n quan<\/i> (literally Mandarin Square Capturing), ch\u01a1i chuy\u1ec1n<\/i> (bamboo jacks) so that they can help visitors, especially children to have a real experience.<\/p>\n
The programme \u201cK\u00fd \u1ee9c H\u00e0 N\u1ed9i\u201d is also coupled with artistic performances like the popular x\u1ea9m ch\u1ee3<\/i>, the classical ca tr\u00f9<\/i>, musical instruments, street music or calligraphy.<\/p>\n
Ms Nguy\u1ec5n Th\u1ecb Ngoan, Head of the Chanh Th\u00f4n Ca tr\u00f9 Club of Ph\u00fa Xuy\u00ean district, Hanoi, joyously shares that the members of the club have performed for five consecutive days. Earlier, they had trained for a whole month and were all very eager to introduce the traditional cultures to the public and visitors.<\/p>\n
The \u201cMemories of Hanoi\u201d programme features exhibition and installation arts, decorations and cultural activities, in addition to a welcome ceremony for the first international guest setting foot in Hanoi in 2016.<\/p>\n
The opening ceremony was held in a cheerful atmosphere with performances, songs, dances that sing praises of the traditions of Th\u0103ng Long in the days of yore.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr \u0110\u1ed7 \u0110\u00ecnh H\u1ed3ng, Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism expressed his firm belief that through this programme, the tourism sector of Hanoi will be able to create more unique and culturally rich tourism products in the coming time in order to appeal more to the visitors, domestic and foreign alike, establishing a foothold for the capital city and the country in general in the international market.<\/p>\n
\u201cMemories of Hanoi\u201d is expected to attract a big turnout of visitors and will last until 4 January 2016.<\/p>\n
