Mr. Firmin Edouard Matoko, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations, visiting Thăng Long Imperial Citadel
On the morning of 15 July 2019, Mr. Firmin Edouard Matoko, Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations paid a visit to Thăng Long Imperial Citadel heritage site. Earlier, on 13 July 2019, he had attended Hanoi’s 20th anniversary of the UNESCO’s “City for Peace” designation (16/7/1999- 16/7/2019).
During his visit to the Citadel, Mr. Matoko expressed his appreciation of the long-established cultural values of Thăng Long – Hà Nội, and his hope that the city will enjoy sustained growth while preserving well its cultural and historical values, as it embarks on active regional and international integration. He also took note of the efforts made by the Thăng Long – Hà Nội Heritage Conservation Centre in the safeguarding and conservation of the Imperial Citadel, especially in the interpretation of the site and the introduction of education programmes which bring heritage closer to children.
