Exhibition “24 competitive projects of architectural design for preservation and promotion of the archaeological relic at 18 Hoang Dieu, Central Sector of Thang Long Imperial Citadel – Hanoi”
For implementation of the Decision No. 696/QĐ- TTg dated 8/6/2012 issued by the Prime Minister pertaining the Master plan of the Central Sector of Imperial Citadel- Hanoi at 18 Hoang Dieu-Hanoi, Department of Planning – Architecture and Center for Thang Long Heritage Preservation – Hanoi are assigned by Hanoi People’s Committee to be in combination with the Urban & Architectural Institute to organize architectural design contest for preservation and promotion of the value of archaeological relic at 18 Hoang Dieu, Central Sector of Thang Long Imperial Citadel – Hanoi’.
The contest was held with a view to selecting the best design ensuring the general principle: “ Preservation and promotion of the heritage value of the archaeological relic at 18 Hoang Dieu; elegant architecture, harmonious with adjacent architectural works and local landscape; towards building a historical, cultural park of Thang Long Imperial Citadel, honoring the heritage value, bringing about the highest benefits for community”.
The contest attracted so many design consultants at home and abroad. Within three months, as of 18/4/2014, the organizer received 24 projects from 23 different architecture firms.
In order to evaluate and grade the competitive projects, Hanoi People’s Committee has established a Board of Examiners consisting of local and international experts in field of architecture, planning, culture, history, preservation and archaeology chaired by the Architect. Nguyen The Thao, Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee. With the serious, fair and professional spirit, through 3 rounds of examination, the Board of Examiners agreed to select top 6 architectural designs.
From 30/4/2014 to 8/5/2014, these 6 designs were displayed at the House 19 C Hoang Dieu (Thang Long Imperial Citadel) to introduce and collect opinions from public.
On 24/6/2014, Hanoi People’s Committee organized a ceremony to present awards for architectural designs for preservation and promotion of the value of archaeological relic at 18 Hoang Dieu, Central Sector of Thang Long Imperial Citadel – Hanoi. No first prize was awarded. Studio Milou Singapore and Joint Venture: Vietnam National Institute of Architecture (Ministry of Construction) – Boydens Engineering Vietnam shared the second prize; the third prize went to a joint project between the Consultant and Investment Construction No 36 and the Cultural Works Designing and Building Joint-Stock Company; the consolation went to the joint project including Institute of Urban and Rural Planning –Group 8 Asia Co., Ltd; Design workshop 3, Department of theory – preservation, Architectural Faculty, Hanoi Architectural University; Architectural Office 4 – Vietnam National Construction Consultants Corporation.
As directed by Hanoi People’s Committee, Center for Thang Long – Hanoi Heritage Preservation continues to display 24 designs from 31/7/2014 to 30/8/2014 at the same time to distribute questionnaire for collecting opinions form public, especially the 2 designs wining the second prize (SM 008 and HT 696) with a view to collecting opinions from people and professional circles.
