Functions and Responsibilities

The Thang Long – Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center, under the authority of the Hanoi People’s Committee, is located at No. 12 Nguyen Tri Phuong Street, Quan Thanh Ward, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi.

The Center is responsible for managing, preserving, and promoting the cultural heritage values of the Co Loa relic site and the central area of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, ensuring that they are worthy of their status as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site and a distinguished historical and cultural landmark of Hanoi and Vietnam.

The Center’s duties include developing procedures and implementing the master plan for the Co Loa relic site and the central area of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long; formulating plans and projects for the conservation, restoration, embellishment, and reconstruction of cultural heritage within the relic site and heritage areas under its management.

It manages and promotes the cultural heritage values of the Co Loa relic site and the central area of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, while also organizing communication and educational activities to encourage organizations and individuals to actively protect both tangible and intangible cultural heritage within these sites, and to prevent violations of the Law on Cultural Heritage.

The Center implements international cooperation programs, especially those in partnership with UNESCO, in the preservation, conservation, and enhancement of the world cultural heritage.

It coordinates with relevant agencies and units to conduct research and collect artifacts and archaeological materials; organize scientific conferences; and identify the cultural heritage values of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long and the Co Loa relic site, enabling appropriate management, preservation, and promotion of these cultural assets.

It organizes scientific and technological research activities, builds information systems, and archives documentation related to the relics to support the Center’s professional operations.

It organizes exhibitions and introduces tangible and intangible cultural heritage to visitors at the Co Loa relic site and the central area of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long.
