Leaders of Hà Nội offering incense to pay homage to ancestral kings at Thăng Long Imperial Citadel
On the morning of 10 October 2020, delegates of Hà Nội Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front took part in an incense-offering ceremony at Thăng Long Imperial Citadel. This was an activity to celebrate the 1010th anniversary of Thăng Long – Hà Nội (1010-2020) and to demonstrate the good cultural tradition of “remember the headspring as you drink water” of the nation.
Joining the delegation were comrades: Politburo member, Secretary of the City Party Committee, Head of the city’s National Assembly delegation Vương Đình Huệ; Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Ngô Thị Thanh Hằng; Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People’s Committee Chu Ngọc Anh; Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the City People’s Council Nguyễn Thị Bích Ngọc; Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Đào Đức Toàn; members of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, leaders of a number of departments and agencies of Hà Nội.

Thăng Long Imperial Citadel is a complex of relics associated with the Lý – Trần – Lê Mạc dynasties and the history of Thăng Long. 1010 years since King Lý Thái Tổ issued an edict to move the capital from Hoa Lư (Ninh Bình) to Đại La and renamed it Thăng Long, the capital city has undergone many development milestones, increasingly asserting its position as the land of talent, the Centre of cultural convergence and national resources. In addition, it is also the city for peace and aims to become a creative city in the future.

In the sacred space of the thousand-year-old heritage site, the leaders of Hà Nội offered incense to commemorate and express their gratitude to the ancestors who had painstakingly discovered, built and protected the land. They also paid tribute to King Lý Thái Tổ who established the capital city in Thăng Long in the autumn of 1010, opening up a period of glorious development of Đại Việt (Great Việt) as a country.
This activity also aims to educate the tradition of “remembering the headspring when drinking water”, preserving the good values of Thăng Long – Hà Nội, and promoting forever the values of the Imperial Citadel of Thăng Long, a world cultural heritage site in the heart of the thousand-year-old capital city Hà Nội.
The leaders of Hà Nội expressed their determination to join hands with colleagues, comrades and all the people of the capital, set good examples in building the city’s Party Committee and a clean and strong political system. They wished to elevate the will of the people, build on the thousand-year tradition of culture, heroism, and the strength of national unity while promoting innovation and international integration so as to make the capital city more beautiful, cultured and modern.
