Ministry of National Defense hand over partially the Northern Imperial Citadel of Thang Long

On June 20, 2012, at the Central Sector of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long- Hanoi, Hand-over Ceremony of partial Northern Imperial Citadel of Thang Long (the Northern Princess’s Palace) to Thang Long – Hanoi Heritage Conservation Centre was taken place.

At the Ceremony, the leadership of General Department of Logistics (General Staff- Ministry of National Defense) and the Central Sector of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long- Hanoi, representatives of: Office of General Staff, Project Management Unit 678, Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment and Quan Thanh Ward People’s Committee were present.

In compliance with conclusion at the meeting by and between the leadership of the Ministry of National Defense and Hanoi City according to Statement No. 126/BQP-UBND dated 29/5/2012 on the implementation of national defense works, local military and some construction works and projects attached with Hanoi Capital socio- economic development, the Ministry of National Defense has instructed military forces which garrison at the Northern Imperial Citadel of Thang Long completing the movement to new temporary garrison to hand over all areas of land and accommodation to Hanoi City People’s Committee.

Total land area which is handed over this time is 10,668 m2, included 5 zones in the Northern Princess’s Palace (Zones No. 1, 1B, 3 Hoang Dieu street; Zone No. 3B Hoang Dieu street; Zone No. 5 Hoang Dieu street; Zone No. 2 Hoang Dieu street; Zone No. 4 Nguyen Tri Phuong street).

This is partial implementation of route on handing over all Hanoi Ancient Citadel to Hanoi City according to instruction of the Prime Minister.

The handing over of partial Northern Imperial Citadel of Thang Long(Northern Princess’s Palace) to Thang Long – Hanoi Heritage Conservation Centre has shown effort made by the Ministry of National Defense, Hanoi City People’s Committee and related units in the compliance with the Government’s commitment to the World Heritage Committee on integration of the world heritage management regarding the Central Sector of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long- Hanoi.

After receipt of such area, Thang Long – Hanoi Heritage Conservation Centre shall continue to survey, study and make master planning on the preservation of Imperial Citadel of Thang Long.
