Propaganda and education of vestiges at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long
Annually, ten thousands of students visit and survey the national history at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long. This is one of useful and practical extracurricular activities which facilitate learning environment, particularly History, for students.
One of propaganda and education activities of vestige organized regularly at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long is voluntary activity of students and the young. During last years, hundreds of students from University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi participated in voluntary activities at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long. Typically, at the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long- Hanoi, volunteers and students positively supported the Centre for the preservation of Thang Long- Hanoi Cultural Heritage regarding receipt, guidance and explanation to serve visitors. More than 50 volunteers were assigned to present on duty at vestiges, exhibition and sightseeing locations to guide and protect vestiges and relics. Therefore, they together with personnel staff of the Centre contributed to complete well the receipt and serving of sudden crowded amount of visitors (ten thousands of visitors everyday) at the anniversary, ensuring safety, security, order and hygiene in the Citadel.
“Propaganda of Thang Long culture and history” was one of new contents in the voluntary summer campaign 2012 by Hanoi youth and students. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi attending the propaganda of Thang Long culture and history assigned 80 members from such faculties of Linguistics, Tourism, Oriental Studies and International Studies, divided in 6 teams at tourism locations in Hanoi urban areas and suburbs included Temple of Literature, Ngoc Son Temple, Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Co Loa vestige (Dong Anh), Soc Temple- Soc Son and Nguyen Phi Y Lan Temple- Gia Lam. Thang Long Imperial Citadel team had 15 members who were mostly students from the Faculty of Oriental Studies.
Thang Long Imperial Citadel is a complex of vestiges attached with history of Thang Long- Hanoi imperial city; therefore, the propaganda of Thang Long culture in such location is also significant meaningful. Acknowledging this, all volunteers have equipped with certain historical knowledge to introduce and advertise Thang Long culture to domestic and foreign visitors. The team was trained, provided with documents and guided with routes of sightseeing in the citadel by lecturers from the University and the Centre for the preservation of Thang Long- Hanoi cultural heritage so that they could have certain understanding and avoid surprise when participating in propaganda and guidance.
During the time at the citadel, students participated in many specific and practical activities such as: maintaining environmental hygiene, protecting landscape in the citadel, allocating leaflet to propagandize and guide domestic and foreign visitors… regardless of weather and difficulties.
