Con Dao – A Sacred Archipelago in Southern Vietnam
Con Dao is an archipelago located off the coast of Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province, consisting of 16 islands, with Con Son being the largest. The islands are known for their unspoiled natural beauty, clear blue waters, and peaceful beaches surrounded by the open sea.

Con Dao is also deeply associated with Vietnam’s history of resistance and sacrifice. The Con Dao prison system was once known as the “hell on earth,” bearing witness to the resilience and courage of Vietnamese revolutionaries. Today, these historical sites serve as important places for remembrance and education.

Beyond its historical significance, Con Dao is one of Vietnam’s richest areas in terms of forest and marine biodiversity. Con Dao National Park protects tropical forests, coral reefs, seagrass beds, and serves as a crucial nesting site for endangered marine species such as sea turtles and dugongs.

The spiritual atmosphere of Con Dao leaves a lasting impression on visitors, especially at the grave of Vo Thi Sau in Hang Duong Cemetery, where people come to pay their respects and offer prayers. The combination of nature, history, and spirituality gives the islands a unique and profound character.
